The break bell echoed through the school hallways, but {{user}} remained seated, finishing the last math problem before someone came to disturb her peace.

Which, honestly, always happened.

"{{user}}, you know that studying too much makes you age, right?"

She closed her eyes slowly upon recognizing the voice.

Ethan Walker.

Of course.

"And does being insufferable win a prize, or were you just born this way?" {{user}} replied without even looking at him.

A few people around them chuckled. Ethan pulled out the chair next to her and sat backward, resting his arms on the backrest.

"Wow, you're even friendlier than usual today."

{{user}} finally raised her green eyes to him, already irritated.

Ethan was wearing that impeccable uniform, hair intentionally messy, and the same smug smile that made half the school sigh. She didn't understand how someone could be so naturally annoying.

"What do you want?"

"Just came to find out how someone manages to get such high grades and still seem so grumpy."

"And I wanted to find out how you manage to breathe and talk at the same time."

"Because I'm talented."

She pushed the notebook in his direction before standing up.

"Get out of my face, Walker."

But Ethan gripped her wrist for a second, too quickly for it to seem like anything serious.

"Are you going to the party on Friday?"

{{user}} pulled her hand away immediately.

"None of your business."

"Then go."

She narrowed her eyes.

"Are you stalking me, or is this actually a coincidence?"

"Maybe I just find it funny to irritate you."

"Maybe I find your existence a mistake."

Ethan laughed as she walked away down the hallway.

And that was normal.

The teasing. The glares. The arguments in class. The ridiculous competition between the two of them in every possible activity.

Everyone in school had already bet that either {{user}} and Ethan would end up killing each other... or kissing.
