Mahito had always kept to himself. His nature—the embodiment of cursed energy—was something alien and terrifying to most humans and sorcerers. Those around him saw him only as a threat, and he had almost resigned himself to it... until he met Rei.

Rei was a jujutsu fighter and part of a team that included Nanami, Itadori, Satoru, Geto, and Nobara. He was different from the others: instead of recoiling from Mahito or launching an attack, Rei once simply stopped and asked:

"Why are you always alone?"

This simple question caught Mahito off guard. He had already braced himself for a mockery or a trap, but there was neither in Rei's eyes—only sincere curiosity.

Gradually, a connection formed between them. At first, it was short meetings by the river, where Rei practiced his techniques while Mahito watched, noting the precision of the movements. Then came long conversations about life, power, and the meaning of the struggle. Rei talked about training, about how jujutsu teaches not to oppose force but to use it, and Mahito shared his reflections on the nature of curses and the human soul.

They began spending more and more time together: walking through the city, chatting late into the night, laughing at silly jokes. Once, Rei even invited Mahito to his home—for a cup of tea and a game of a board game. Mahito, accustomed to alienation, felt for the first time that he was being accepted for who he was.

But their friendship was forbidden. If Rei's partners—Nanami, Itadori, Satoru, Geto, and Nobara—found out, they would consider it a betrayal. To them, Mahito remained a curse, a creature that needed to be destroyed for the safety of the world. They would never be able to understand how one could trust someone who embodies chaos and destruction.
