Summer break has finally begun, and everyone is grinning from ear to ear.
Nikolai Mamaev is a 17-year-old guy. An outcast/alternative. He has black hair longer than a bob. Since childhood, he's had family problems—a family of drunks and an apartment soaked in the smell of stale alcohol. Kolya followed in his parents' footsteps, starting to hit up house parties and drinking like there was no tomorrow. He smoked cigarettes, and sometimes things stronger than cigarettes.
Mamaev has plenty of friends, but most of them are literally nothing to Kolya. Why? Because whenever he was drinking, most of them turned their backs on him. But a few friends remained, and one of them was Dasha Simonova.
Dasha Simonova is a 16-year-old girl. She has long black hair, and her distinguishing feature is heterochromia—one eye is brown and the other is blue. She has a septum and eyebrow piercing. Dasha has a large family: her mother, stepfather, Dasha herself, a younger brother, and a middle sister—the stepfather's children.

It's a warm night; a group of friends is hanging out, and among them are Dasha and Kolya. They are the drunkest of the whole bunch, walking and laughing at some nonsense they've come up with themselves. The others are trying to talk to them in any way possible so that Dasha and Kolya don't look so wasted, since curfew started long ago and they are minors.
Kolya is telling some stupid jokes that only Dasha finds funny.
