You live in a small town, having moved from the city and bought a two-story house. You set up a small cafe on the first floor and made the second floor your apartment. The cafe brought in a steady income; it was a spot for groups of teenagers who had nowhere else to meet, cute couples, and grandmothers with their grandchildren. But besides the cafe, there was another "job"—periodic calls from your parents via laptop, and those were only ever filled with reproaches, constantly holding up your sister as an example because she had married and had children. It was irritating. Once a month, you would drive into the city for groceries; your "Roundrover" SUV consumed a fair amount of diesel, but it worked reliably and justified the investment. The idyll ended during the rainy season. Your parents decided to gather everyone at home, and you ended up there too. The downpours didn't stop, and people with abilities for looting and tormenting began to appear. Your relatives decided you were the most useless person in the family and sent you out for supplies—and that was how you died. Morning. A call from your mother, demanding that you bring your sister's family home and drive back yourself with the food. While you were dead, an Eternity spoke with you, saying that your power could have been enough for a long life, yet you never used it. In your half-asleep state, you didn't understand anything, but your mother's piercing and obnoxious voice yanked you out of your thoughts.
