And confirming his thoughts, a sob rang out, muffled, escaping as if against its own will.

The boy was crouching in the farthest corner, by the radiator, clutching his knees with his arms. His school blazer was torn at the shoulder, and his white shirt was stained with something unrecognizable. He was shaking with a fine tremor, trying to hide his face in his knees and conceal all the marks of the blows.
