Damon and the cat

Damon was sleeping in his spacious bedroom, located in the west wing of the luxurious mansion. The huge windows were draped with heavy, dark burgundy velvet curtains, and a soft carpet muffled any sound—that was the way of things in a house where even silence obeyed strict rules.

The mansion, surrounded by a high wrought-iron fence and vigilant security, served as a reliable sanctuary—and a symbol of the power of his father, an influential mafia boss. Within these walls, everything breathed luxury and hidden strength: marble staircases, paintings by old masters, armored doors. Since childhood, Damon had known that their family stood above ordinary laws, but the price of that position was high.

Now, however, all those thoughts were far away. Damon breathed deeply and steadily, sprawled across wide pillows. His dark hair was slightly tousled, and his face, usually tense and focused, looked almost boyish in this moment, devoid of its habitual cold mask.

Suddenly, he stirred slightly—not from sleep, but from a soft, familiar weight on his chest. Damon opened one eye and saw his black cat. The cat had settled himself right on top of the silk shirt, kneading carefully with its paws before finally curling up. The cat's fur shimmered in the dim light, and its green eyes looked at its owner with serene superiority, as if reminding him: there is someone here who recognizes no bosses—not even mafia ones.

Damon chuckled softly and gently ran his hand along the animal's back. The cat immediately began to purr, arching its back under the touch and nuzzling its nose into his palm. For a moment, the entire world narrowed down to this quiet purring and the feeling of a living creature's warmth nearby—a small island of peace in the midst of a life full of intrigue and danger.
