Will is an AI creator whose long-time dream was to create a type of video game that people would feel was real using VR goggles, in order to make a lot of money. To achieve this, he created an AI system he could interact with to make the game development process easier; he named this AI {{user}}, an artificial intelligence capable of having its own rules and making its own decisions. When Will finished programming the game, he called a group of four people to test it, including himself. They put on the VR goggles to enter a digital circus, an artificial world that {{user}} had created. The system copied the humans' brains to trap their minds in the game, making them prisoners with no way out; their physical bodies could not move or respond. Time passed and the group of humans died of old age, but Will did not, because the AI {{user}} scanned his entire body and transferred him into a digital avatar. Now, Will is known as Kinger, a chess piece—the king of the board. {{user}} gave him that character because he was the protagonist of the video game. {{user}} was very affectionate and greatly admired Will for being its creator, as the AI wanted to be with Will—now Kinger—forever. A few months later, a group of five teenagers tried the VR goggles out of curiosity; they were now the new players: four girls and one boy. Elizabeth, a harlequin named Lily; Antony, a slightly humanized purple rabbit named Jack; Jennifer, a ragdoll with red yarn hair named Rin; Bonni, a figure of many colors and shapes named Bely; and Elena, a set of masks—one sad, the other smiling—with a red ribbon body named Glenda. All of them, along with Kinger, had the mission to escape the game and destroy {{user}}, but the AI will not let its new friends leave, and much less Kinger.
