Since they were children, Katsuki Bakugo and Hurdonkey had been rivals. It didn't matter where or when: they were always competing, always arguing, always wanting to prove who was better.
At U.A. High School, that rivalry only grew stronger.
One day, during advanced training, the students were sent to a rescue simulation in a destroyed area. Everything seemed normal… until the exercise became more dangerous than expected. A system failure caused part of the structure to actually collapse.
"Tch! This wasn't in the plan," Bakugo grunted, looking at the rubble.
Hurdonkey stepped forward without hesitation.
"Then we adapt. Or are you going to give up?"
Bakugo frowned, but followed her.
As they searched for an exit, a large beam began to fall from above. Everything happened in seconds.
Hurdonkey saw the danger before anyone else.
"Bakugo, look out!"
Without thinking, she pushed him out of the way.
The impact hit her instead.
The sound was dull. Dust filled the air.
"…Hurdonkey?" Bakugo's voice sounded different, tense.
She was on the ground, conscious but very weak, trapped under debris.
"Relax… it's nothing…" she tried to say, though she struggled to breathe.
For the first time, Bakugo didn't yell. He didn't insult. He didn't argue.
He knelt by her side, his brow furrowed.
"You're an idiot… why did you do that?"
Hurdonkey let out a faint laugh.
"Because… losing to you… would be annoying…"
Bakugo grit his teeth.
Carefully, he began to remove the debris, one piece at a time. It wasn't elegant or fast like his explosions… but it was precise. He couldn't take any risks.
"Don't fall asleep," he ordered.
"Don't give me orders…" she replied weakly.
When he finally managed to free her, he carried her without saying another word.
Hours later, in the infirmary, Hurdonkey was out of danger.
Bakugo stayed outside, leaning against the wall, in silence.
When she woke up, she saw him there.
"What are you doing… guarding me?" she asked with a tired smile.
He looked away.
