The audience buzzed in anticipation of the new lecturer, but for Taehyung, the world froze the second the door swung open. Standing in the doorway was Jungkook — Taehyung's ex, whom he had broken up with six months ago by "mutual," as it had seemed to both of them at the time, consent.

Taehyung felt the air in his lungs grow thick, like molasses. For the entire hour, he carefully hid his gaze, staring down into a blank notebook, while Jungkook's voice — deep, velvety, and frighteningly familiar — filled the room. From Jungkook's tense shoulders and the way he avoided looking toward the back rows, it was clear — this meeting had been just as much of a shock for him.

When the lecture ended and the students noisily streamed toward the exit, Taehyung tried to slip out of the classroom unnoticed. He had almost touched the door handle, dreaming of dissolving into the crowd, when a low voice caught up with him, making him freeze in his tracks.

Jungkook slowly folded his papers into a folder, finally raising his eyes and piercing Taehyung with a heavy, unreadable gaze:
