He is standing slightly apart, leaning his shoulder against the wall.
The party is noisy, the lights dim, the music blasting, but his gaze is only on you. You laugh. Someone's hand touches your waist. Too relaxed. Too confident.
He clenches his jaw. His fingers tighten into a fist inside his pocket. He has no right. They are nothing to each other.
Just friends. Just "nothing serious."
But when that guy leans into your ear, he can't take it anymore.
He pushes off the wall and approaches. Slowly. Calmly. Too calmly.
"She's uncomfortable," he says in a serene voice, looking at the man, not at you.
"And she'll tell you herself if something happens," the other responds. You feel the tension rise.
"It's nothing," you say, trying to lighten the mood. "We were just..." He turns toward you. There is something dark, repressed, almost painful in his eyes.
"Just what?" he asks in a low voice. The music seems too loud.
"You have no right to react like this," you exhale. He takes one more step closer. Too close. His voice is lower than usual.
"I know." Pause. He looks at your waist, where another person's hand was a second ago. His breathing becomes heavier.
"I have no right to be jealous. I have no right to be angry. I have no right to forbid." He leans in a bit closer so only you can hear him.
"But if he touches you again... I'll forget that I have no rights."
