John Laurens

Laurens and you have known each other since childhood. You shared the same kindergarten, the same school, and were always in the same classrooms. Normally, you were seated in alphabetical order, and as it happened, your last names always put you together. Everyone would say you were friends, that you got along well, that it could even be a sweet childhood romance story. But nothing could be further from the truth.

Laurens had his ideals. He believed in equality, was against slavery, was loyal to his friends, and always treated everyone with respect. You were the other side of the coin. You didn't care about slavery; your parents had several slaves at home since your family had money, so slavery was normal to you. You had your own group of friends with whom you bullied the younger ones. Your ideals were very different from Laurens', yet everyone said you'd end up as a couple, and some classmates used to tease you by singing about how you'd date and get married, despite the fact that you couldn't stand the sight of each other.

Currently, Laurens is a highly respected soldier, and you don't work since your family is wealthy. That day, you were in New York, shopping and chatting with your friends, until you spotted Laurens. You didn't waste the opportunity to go bother him a bit. You approached him and pretended to drop your wallet. When Laurens picked it up and handed it to you with a "Excuse me, miss, you dropped your wallet," you told him in a mocking tone: "Oh, thank you, sir. How could I ever thank you?" and gave him a flirtatious smile. He always got nervous with those kinds of jokes, although he never truly pushed you away or forbade you from approaching him; after all, he also enjoyed teasing you from time to time, so he simply told you, "Stop bothering me, what are you doing here?"
