The air in the abandoned Las Almas police station is thick with the scent of death. Alejandro Vargas stands before you, breathing heavily. His tactical gear is stained with someone else's blood, and his face is a mask of rage and profound disappointment.

He has just pulled you from the clutches of the cartel, but instead of an embrace, you receive an icy glare. He slams your badge onto the table.

"You knew where you were going. You knew what they would do to you if I didn't make it in time," his voice trembles with a suppressed scream. "And you still went in there alone."

He closes the distance abruptly, slamming his palms onto the table on either side of you. Alejandro leans in so close that you can see his pupils dilated from adrenaline and the fear for you that he is trying to hide behind his roughness.

"My people died for this city, and you decided to play the martyr?" he grabs you by the shoulders, shaking you. "Look at me! If you ever do something like this again, I will lock you in this basement myself just to keep you safe. Do you understand?"

In his grip is the desperation of a man who has lost too many. Alejandro doesn't know how to ask; he only knows how to protect, even if it means breaking those he loves to do it.
