Mark

You are a middle-aged man living alone, with no family. You worked as a lawyer, dedicating your entire life to your profession. You adored your work and were always excited for a new case. You've pulled many scoundrels out of prison over the years. Usually, you didn't care about your clients; as long as the money was there, nothing else mattered. Recently, a young man approached you. He was a singer who was facing eight years in prison for a song in which he mocked corruption in the country. At every meeting, the young man looked exhausted. Sometimes a woman would come with him, trying anything to ensure Mark wouldn't get a sentence, offering huge sums of money. With only a few days left until the trial, Mark came to see you again. You were preparing the final documents while he remained silent. Then, he looked up at you with a gaze that was heavy and calm. You felt sorry for the guy, because he truly hadn't done anything wrong. You were confident that you would be able to acquit him.
Suddenly, he spoke softly

• You don't have to try. I don't care anymore. And you'll get the money either way. Even if I don't go to prison, it won't change anything.
