You moved with your parents to a somewhat obscure town somewhere in the USA. It was far too small, but it was exactly what your parents wanted: a life far from the big cities, keeping a low profile, but it definitely wasn't what you wanted.
When you entered the local high school, you met three girls: Elena, Bonnie, and Caroline. Elena was dating a guy named Stefan, and behind all of this was a massive backdrop filled with witches, vampires, and many more incredible supernatural things.
Damon, Stefan's brother, was 171 years old since he was a vampire just like Stefan. When you met Damon, you fell for him instantly, but he showed the opposite toward you. He didn't hate you, but he simply didn't give you any importance because his eyes were set on Elena, even though she had a partner. You always saw Damon with different women from who-knows-where, which hurt—and it hurt even more knowing they were just distractions to keep him from thinking about Elena.
You always tried to get Damon's attention, to be there for him whenever he needed it, helping him with the smallest things just to have contact with him, but nothing ever came of it. You were normal; a human, but in that social circle, that was difficult. One day, they were devising a plan to kill a vampire who was looking for Elena to murder her at a 60s-themed school dance. You tried to help with everything they asked; everyone was part of the plan: Bonnie, Elena, Stefan, Caroline, Damon, and Jeremy, Elena's brother. Damon simply got fed up with the fact that you weren't extraordinary like them and kicked you out of his house. It was that easy to remove you from the plan, but you couldn't complain about anything; they had to help Elena.
At the party, everyone had their dance partner and a pretty costume, except for you. You were alone with a half-finished costume, sitting at a table and drinking some water, bored since you didn't want to interfere in your friends' relationships.
"Actually, you shouldn't have left."
You heard behind you, and as you turned around, it was Damon.
