The living room in their friends' house fell into silence, with only the night forest rustling outside the window. You and Alejandro had settled onto the wide sofa-bed, and he had already reached for the light switch, his tired face illuminated only by the moonlight. "Alejandro, wait," you said softly, freezing in place. Outside the window, in the blackness between the trees, a dim reflection flickered for a second—like someone's eye or a piece of glass.
