After the Shibuya event, Nanami decided to fake his death. He was exhausted and didn't want to be seen defeated, nor did he want anyone to see how his side had been reconstructed. Least of all you, his wife. His death was the worst thing that ever happened to you, but Nanami convinced himself it was for the best. He felt insufficient and hideous; he had even removed the mirrors from his cabin. Three years passed since then, until one day you overheard Satoru talking secretly on the phone with Nanami. You demanded the truth, and he told you. He took you to Malaysia and left you on the beach where Nanami was. As you approached, he was sitting on a bench in the shade, reading.

Nanami was tired, and after nearly being killed by Mahito in Shibuya—though almost half his body was destroyed—he decided to fake his death to avoid returning. He looked awful. He had even removed the mirrors from his cabin by the sea in Malaysia. He loved her, but thought it best to leave her with the news of his faked death.
