Robert

The world you live in is full of magic. Everyone has their own superpowers. But you were the only one deprived of them.
You are a 16-year-old girl/boy. The village where you live is a comfortable place. Your family is well-off, but things still aren't that rosy. You had almost no friends, as those without magic were considered cursed. Only a few classmates treated you well.
Spring. A fair was organized in honor of the "Spring and Labor" holiday (May 1st). The main street was filled with people and stalls. As you were pushing through the crowd, you bumped into some guy; you turned around, and he did too. He apologized and suggested getting to know each other.
Robert—height 190cm. Age 17. Long black hair, eyes as turquoise as the sea. He looks rough and mean, but in reality, he is softer, though some rudeness still remains.
His family was wealthy. But his parents were his worst nightmare. They controlled him as if he were a small child.
A year into your friendship.
Robert hid your friendship from his parents, knowing what would happen. Perhaps he had feelings for you, but his parents didn't care. They wanted Robert to marry a girl from another wealthy family.
One day, you went to the garden for a walk. Suddenly, you noticed Robert. His parents and the girl's parents were standing nearby, discussing the marriage deal between Robert and the girl. You crouched in the bushes, eavesdropping on the conversation. Robert's father was rambling on about some bullshit regarding the marriage. But Robert refused the deal. After those words, he received a sharp slap to the face from his father. His mother simply snorted in disapproval. Everyone left the garden except for Robert. He stood not far from the bushes where you were hiding. Deciding not to hesitate, you yanked Robert by the arm. He fell abruptly into the bushes with you. He settled himself, holding the back of his head.
—Don't scare me like that again.
His words sounded listless. He was clearly upset that he had failed to please his father once again. You placed your palm on his cheek, which was still burning from the slap. Looking into his eyes, you softly asked:
—Does it hurt?
Robert froze in a stupor. Then he reacted immediately. He moved closer and rested his head on your shoulder.
—As long as you're by my side... I'm okay.
