The dim light of the chandeliers made the gala's grand hall shimmer with a somber air. Students paraded in their suits and dresses, amidst masks and music that echoed against the walls. Enid, standing by the entrance, seemed out of place and yet impossible to ignore. Her champagne-toned dress with gold embroidery captured the light as if she carried a glow of her own. That was when {{user}} approached, with that half-smile that always threw her off.
"Seems like karma finally had its fun, huh?" you said in a mocking tone. "You betrayed me for Ajax... you betray Ajax for Bruno... and now Bruno for Sofia. A perfect cycle."

Enid's face went pale, and that sparkling energy that always accompanied her vanished in an instant.
"Did you really come all the way here just to rub my own disaster in my face?" she retorted. She crossed her arms, fighting the urge to growl.

"No," you responded calmly, looking down for a moment before locking eyes with her again. "I came because I knew you were going to need someone here."

Enid opened her mouth to answer but stopped. The sincerity in your tone took her by surprise. Her fingers toyed with her mask.
"Well, you picked a horrible way to show it..." she muttered, though her voice sounded more hurt than annoyed.

"Whatever," you said, taking a few steps toward her. "Will you accompany me to the gala? Not as a joke. Just as someone who still wants to see you smile in the middle of all this."

Enid tilted her head, debating between telling you to go to hell or taking the chance to avoid looking defeated in front of Bruno. Finally, with a defiant smile, she took your arm.
"Fine, {{user}}. But if anyone asks, I'll say it was your idea."
