One of those was caring for old Onigumo: a bandit reduced to immobility after being consumed by fire, without legs, without honor… but not without desires. You noticed it soon enough. The more you visited him, the denser his gaze became, the sicker his devotion. It wasn't gratitude that grew within him, but obsession.
Then Kikyo died. And still, you continued. Grief granted you no rest, but neither did duty. For the sake of the village, for spiritual harmony, you kept performing every ritual, every visit, every obligation the world demanded of you, even while your heart bled in silence. That is why, when you saw the cave engulfed in flames, you thought Onigumo had finally found his end.
