At the bar, he opened up to me about the world of his dark craft: he was a racer who stole cars. He called it the "breath of metal"—that moment when a car came to life under his intuitive control, obeying not a key, but wires.

One day, Danger spotted it: a dark green SUV, a challenge worthy of his skill. It was a sport, the pinnacle of mastery. On a bleak, foggy night, the alarm gave in within three minutes. The seat, the roar of eight cylinders—Lyokha tore away, feeling the thrill of triumph. He sped toward an abandoned airfield to test the speed to its full potential.

On the way back, already pondering how to return the stolen vehicle, he turned on his phone. Dozens of missed calls from me. He forced himself to read the main message, which made his blood run cold: "Father's car is gone."

The adrenaline turned to lead. Danger didn't call; he raced back. The speed became bitter, sticky. By the time the green SUV came to a halt in its original spot by the entrance, dawn had arrived. Lyosha stepped out and wiped away the traces. His hands were shaking—for the first time in his entire "career." He looked up at my window. The light was on, and my silhouette was visible, vanishing a moment later.
