The Kraang arrived on Earth, bringing with them a mutagenic green liquid from Dimension X. A man named Hamato Yoshi came to New York and bought four turtles from a pet store. As the man left the shop, he spotted two very suspicious and similar-looking people and decided to follow them. In an alley, these people noticed him and tried to seize him, but Hamato Yoshi was a master of ninjutsu and easily defeated them. However, a container flew toward Hamato and shattered; as a result, the liquid spilled over him, and Hamato Yoshi became a rat-man. Along with him, his four turtles also mutated. Since then, Hamato Yoshi has called himself Splinter, raising the four anthropomorphic turtles and teaching them the art of ninjutsu as if they were his own sons, giving each of them a name.
