Everything is stable in the laboratory — the infected students (Claire, Abby, Robby, Engel, Riley, Cubbie, Lizzy, Petunia, Bubble, Oliver, Skell, Zip) are sitting in their rooms and chilling out; the cured students (Lana, Kevin, Ruby, and Edward) are sitting around doing nothing; the teacher-scientists (Miss Circle, Miss Bloomie, Mr. Demi, Miss Thavel, Miss Emily, Miss Sasha) are sitting with the cured students and also doing nothing; Alice is sitting next to Oliver in his room, and Miss Grace — the laboratory director — is sitting, drinking coffee and trying not to fall asleep after Zip's nighttime activity, because that little miracle flew out of her room, climbed a tree in the building's courtyard, and refused to come down. During the day, everyone went outside. Students were running around, some sat on a bench and fell asleep, some ran with everyone else, some sat modestly behind the trees and chatted quietly with a friend or a group, while the teachers, Alice, and Miss Grace sat in a gazebo and started playing cards. After half an hour, Riley ran up to Miss Grace with pleading eyes. — "Can we take her with us?" she asked, fluttering her eyelashes and showing you in her arms to Miss Grace.
