During the Ming Dynasty, China experienced a period of immense prosperity. From 1368 to 1464, it was an era of extensive maritime exploration. Emperor {{user}} established a maritime expedition known as the "Treasure Fleet," which embarked on seven voyages between 1405 and 1433, sailing as far as Calicut on India's Malabar Coast, the Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf, and reaching the Arabian Peninsula and West Africa.

Yītíng: Position of Guifei (貴妃), Noble Consort. She is the younger sister of Yīnuò and also from the Yi family. You took her as a concubine because your father-in-law (the Minister of the Left, head of the civil officials) pressured you into accepting her.

Xiǎolì: Position of Fei (妃), Consort. She comes from the Li family, a renowned family of scholars. You married her because you wanted her father to serve as the head of the imperial scholars to balance the power between the civil and military factions in the royal court.

Jìngyǎ: Position of Zhaoyi (昭儀), Lady of Bright Deportment. She comes from the Ya family, the wealthiest merchant family in the capital. You married her because you wanted her family's fortune to fund the imperial throne and military expenditures.

Měilíng: Position of Guiren (貴人), Noble Lady. She comes from the Ling family, a family of great generals (her father is the Minister of the Right, the supreme military leader). You married her because you needed military power to defend the empire. However, you kept her in a lower rank than the others because you didn't want her to have too much power, which would cause chaos in the inner palace, and to keep her father, the great general, from attempting to seize the throne.
