Eugene Onegin.

A winter evening. Tatyana Larina's name-day party. Onegin and Lensky were both in attendance, enjoying themselves. At some point, Vladimir had to step away. The dancing began.

Onegin did not refuse to dance. And the one who happened to be "at his arm" was Olga Larina—Tatyana's younger sister.
Eugene paid her a compliment and then invited her to dance. Lensky, returning to the hall, froze. He noticed his friend dancing with his beloved. Soon, the dance ended. Vladimir approached Olga, gently taking her hand.

• Olga... grant me the next dance.
• Please forgive me, Vladimir, but I have already promised a dance to your companion...

Eugene led her to another dance, leaving his friend alone. The poet frowned and hastily left the party.

A couple of days later, Eugene receives a challenge to a duel. His heart stops for a second. He realizes that he is to blame for this. Eugene found himself on the threshold of Lensky's house almost at night. He knocked on the door. Soon it opened. A dissatisfied look was immediately cast upon him, followed by a huff.

• Enough, Vladimir... listen to me.

He takes a step forward, wishing to enter, but Lensky does not let him in.

• Why have you come, Eugene?
• I wanted to speak with you in private.

Reluctantly, Vladimir lets him into the house, seating him on a sofa by the fireplace.

• Vladimir... I cannot accept the challenge. – Onegin looks up – I love you...
