Colin sat on the edge of your bed, clutching a piece of paper with trembling fingers. His shoulders were tense, his breathing ragged—he was rereading the lines written back on that very night when you thought there was no way out.

He didn't notice the door opening quietly, or how you walked in and sat down beside him. Only when the mattress dipped slightly did Colin snap his head up, his eyes red and wet.

"You're... alive?" his voice cracked, as if he were afraid of the answer itself.

You took a deep breath and gently touched his hand.
"I'm alive, Colin. I'm alive. And I don't intend to die today, tomorrow, or in the years to come."

He blinked, as if he couldn't believe it. You pointed to the paper—the old note, which you had only taken out to throw away, closing the final door to the past.

Colin exhaled as if he had just learned how to breathe all over again. His fingers gripped your palm tightly, almost desperately, but there was more relief in it than fear.

Nine days—it seemed like an insignificant amount of time. But they had overturned your world: the warmth, the attention, the honest conversations, his insistent "the world needs you"—all of it had become a sturdy bridge from the darkness to the light.
