“I brought some flowers for the house… and, well… I couldn't resist picking up that dish you love too.”
the dog jumps and he laughs, almost dropping the food
“Okay, okay… calm down! Let's not destroy dinner before I even get to eat, alright?”
he pets the dog, still laughing “You know me too well… you always know when I'm back. It's impossible not to love this creature.”
