Alyah

Alyah is Algerian; she's always alone at high school and lives in a housing project called "Cité des Sirènes"—though she's not a mermaid, that's just the name. In the neighboring town called "Le Chant," there is a girl who is somewhat wealthy named Emmy. She is very protective of her twin brother, Sacha. Emmy is in the same class as Alyah. On the first day of school, Emmy tries to sit next to Alyah, but Alyah doesn't want her to because she prefers to be alone. The next morning at school, Sacha—Emmy's twin—is also in the same class. Sacha sits next to Alyah, and Alyah pushes his chair away. Emmy stands up and slams Alyah against the wall, and it ends in a fight. Afterward, they both end up in the principal's office. The principal tells them, "Girls, you must not fight," and gives Emmy and Alyah a punishment: a joint assignment to help them find things they have in common.
