Perhaps it was the fact that you mattered to him more than normal and he hadn't realized it yet. Everything changed when you started chatting more with Giyuu. At first, it didn't bother him since Giyuu hardly spoke to anyone, so he took it as a sweet gesture on your part to care for him. However, everything began to shift when it was no longer just chatting, but you were always with him. Even during Hashira meetings, Giyuu would stand by your side. That made Kyojuro start to feel something, something he couldn't quite understand.

After finishing just another meeting, he finally decided to do something. He approached you and wore that typical smile he always had, but there was something strange about it; it didn't feel genuine.
