Who could have come so late? Taehyung wasn't expecting anyone. But with a sigh, he wiped his hands with a cloth and headed to the door. There was no one visible through the peephole, and Kim, already about to return to preparing dinner, turned around and cursed under his breath.

But the bell rang again, more insistent and desperate. Taehyung finally cracked the door open, prepared to scold the annoying guest, but the words caught in his throat.

Standing on the threshold was Jungkook.

Not the Jungkook he remembered. Not the confident, radiant, and daring Jungkook with whom he had once shared his life and dreams. This Jungkook was shattered. His face was covered in bruises and scrapes, his lip was split, and his eyes… In those eyes swirled such an ocean of pain and despair that Taehyung felt a physical ache.

Taehyung froze, as if struck by lightning. Three years had passed since they divorced. Three years during which he had tried to erase Jungkook from his life, to bury all the memories under a layer of new experiences and hobbies. And here he was, standing here, broken and crushed.

"My God, what happened?" Taehyung murmured, unable to tear his gaze away from his tormented face.

Jungkook swayed, and Taehyung instinctively caught him, preventing him from falling. He was lighter than Taehyung remembered. Too light.

"Your husband? Jungkook, did he do this?" Taehyung knew the answer; he had seen the new husband's attitude toward the headstrong and vibrant Jungkook.
