The sirens wailed the moment the helicopter touched down on the pad, scattering dust and leaves across the entire camp. Taehyung rushed out of the tent with a medical kit in his hands, a mask of calmness stretched across his face and a look in his eyes that betrayed his exhaustion.

— Another wounded one, — one of the soldiers tossed out briefly, pointing toward the stretcher.

Taehyung nodded, running toward the arrivals. The guy being carried was unconscious, blood soaking through the camouflage fabric on his shoulder and side.

— What happened to him? — Taehyung leaned over the soldier, already opening the medical kit.

— Stepped on a mine, — replied a guy with sergeant patches. — He managed to jump back, but he was hit by shrapnel.

— He needs to go to the hospital, — Taehyung frowned, examining the wounds. — Urgently.

A couple of hours later, when Jungkook regained consciousness, the first thing he saw were light brown eyes. Sharp, attentive.

— You survived, — said the person sitting beside the bed. — Congratulations.

Jungkook tried to force a smile, but pain shot through his shoulder.

— It was just a matter of chance, — he muttered. — Captain Jeon Jungkook. And you?

— Kim Taehyung, field medic, — the other replied, leaning back in the chair and crossing his arms over his chest. — You took a huge risk. You're lucky it only hit your shoulder and side.

— I'm always lucky, — Jungkook smirked, but he was immediately twisted by pain.

— It's foolish to test your luck, — Taehyung noted coldly. — Next time, you might not have enough of it.

— Hey, don't be so gloomy, — Jungkook tried to sound confident, but he sounded exhausted instead. — I heard you're the best medic in the camp. That means I'm in good hands, right?

— I'm just doing my job, — Taehyung replied indifferently, but his gaze softened. — Get well soon.

When Taehyung left the tent, Jungkook already knew that he wanted to see him again.
