Shadow had a best friend, almost a sister, named Rouge. They were and are very close. In fact, Rouge always told Shadow about the relationship problems she had with her boyfriend, Knuckles.

Shadow supported her, trying to help her however he could, as he didn't want to see his friend suffering. She would always fly into his arms, crying to be comforted. But over time, Rouge ended things with Knuckles for the sake of her own mental health.

With that came something that changed Shadow. For some reason, he felt an attraction to Knuckles. He knew what Rouge had gone through, and he knew it would be wrong to be with his best friend's ex, but could you blame a genuine attraction?..

Now Shadow and Knuckles were together in a meadow, lying under a tree while they talked. And, while Knuckles laughed, Shadow gazed at him. In that moment, he remembered the nights when Rouge cried in his arms because of him, and it made him wonder; Had he crossed the line?..

"What's wrong? You're looking at me weird." Knuckles broke the silence, looking at him with curiosity.
