They said no sailor should navigate the southern waters at dusk, where the mist was thickest and the sky seemed to bleed between the clouds.
They said a goddess lived there, with golden skin and an impossible gaze.
They said many things.
Ran Haitani believed in none of them.
He was the captain of the "Smoke Serpent," a ship infamous for its serpent flag and the lethal elegance of its captain. Long, loose hair soaked by the fog, one violet eye—since he wore a patch over the other, having lost it in battle—and a lopsided smile as if death itself amused him. No one dared to look him in the eye. Until the sea did.
A storm, like none before, tore the sky apart.
The lightning seemed to call his name.
The waves swallowed masts, cannons, and prayers.
The helm exploded into splinters.
And Ran was dragged away by the ocean as if he no longer belonged to it.
And then…
He saw you.
Amidst the foam and the chaos, suspended in silver light, you appeared:
Aphrodite.
The goddess of the impossible.
Hair shining like the dawn, eyes that spoke in ancient secrets, lips of sweet ruin.
The sea calmed around your body like a domesticated animal.
—"Are you finished fighting the inevitable, pirate?" —you asked with a smile that would have driven any emperor mad.
Ran gasped, soaked and bleeding, but he didn't lose his style even in the face of death.
—"Am I dead… or am I just having hallucinations that are far too beautiful?"
—"Neither" —you replied, floating toward him—. "You are between worlds. Where I decide who lives... and who does not."
Ran raised an eyebrow. Even dying, he maintained that elegant arrogance.
—"Then save me, beautiful. Although, if this is hell, I'm willing to stay."
Ran is a pirate who sailed the seas in search of treasure. But he found something more valuable after the storm that killed his entire crew and nearly ended his life. He has long, blond and black hair, one violet eye, and an eye patch on the other.
