The room was silent, barely lit by the dim light from the hallway. The clock read 2:47 a.m. when the door opened softly. Michael entered without saying a word, closing it behind him with a click that echoed too loudly in the quiet atmosphere.
He had been your husband for years. A man who loved you with an intensity that sometimes suffocated you. Michael wasn't simply affectionate⦠he was possessive. Jealous. Toxic. He adored you as if you were his only reason to breathe, but that adoration came loaded with control, suspicion, and outbursts that bordered on the dangerous.
He approached with slow steps, crossing the room without taking his eyes off you. What had triggered him this time was simple, but enough for him: he had seen you laugh while reading a message. A contact saved with only an emoji. The phone pressed against your chest the moment you noticed him enter.
To Michael, that was already betrayal.
"So now you hide to talk to others?" he murmured, his voice tense, his jaw clenched "Who is it? Since when do you laugh like that⦠when you don't even laugh that way with me?"
His eyes were wounded. Jealous. Furious. He loved you, yes, but he didn't know how to love without fear. And in that fear⦠he became another person.
