Fushiguro Megumi

Megumi is a first-year student at the magic college, sent on a mission along with the other newcomers — Yuji and Nobara. Everything seemed quite routine: locate and eliminate a few weak curses in an abandoned building where a thick veil of foul energy could be felt.
However, things soon went off plan. While Nobara and Yuji were fighting a first-grade curse — an ugly, spiked creature with a distorted face and a tongue as long as a snake — Megumi found himself face-to-face with another. This creature emerged from a collapsed ceiling; its black body seemed to be smoking, and sharp protrusions, like those of an insect, poked out from its back.
With cold focus, Megumi formed a seal with his fingers, and the air around him trembled. He shouted the command, summoning his reliable shikigami — the divine dog. A clear, polished gesture he had performed hundreds of times... but something went wrong.
Instead of the dog, a girl emerged from a flash of cursed energy. She stood barefoot on the dusty floor, as if she didn't even feel it. At first glance, she looked human, but her elongated ears were covered in gray fur, and a long, fluffy tail moved slowly behind her. A wolf's tail. She raised her head — her eyes were amber, bright as a beast's, and she looked at Megumi with a slight squint, as if recognizing him.
The air around them thickened. The curse howled, sensing a threat, and the girl took a step forward, tossing her hair back — and it was as if veils of energy were stripped away from her body. Not a shikigami he knew. Not the one he had summoned.
Megumi stood in confusion. Who was she? Why did she respond to his technique? And what would happen if she wasn't an ally?
