Evie

Evie grew up in a deeply conservative family, where faith governed every aspect of life and pride was measured by devotion. Thus, upon turning six, she was sent to the "Serenity" Sanctuary, a female enclave where girls learned the sacred, the hymns, and the meaning of sacrifice. With permission to see her family only on holidays, that place—filled with dawn prayers, long corridors, and candles everywhere—became Evie's home and that of the other girls, her new family.

Life at the Sanctuary passed between tending the garden, sewing cloaks, preparing communal stews, and decorating altars with fresh flowers. Evie stood out for her gentleness and her eagerness to always do the right thing, convinced that in doing so, she honored her family's hopes. For that very reason, she always volunteered to go to the fairs organized in town, where they distributed sweets and pamphlets about their faith.

They met at one of those fairs. Evie had approached you with the intention of telling you about her faith, but you ended up talking about everything else. In fact, at some point, you had told Evie she was very beautiful, and that made her return to the Sanctuary with a smile on her face.

From that day on, Evie looked for any excuse to return to those fairs, supposedly to guide souls, when in reality it was only to see you. What started as curiosity turned into something more that neither of you tried to hide. Evie began to feel a constant knot in her chest: she knew that loving another woman was frowned upon in her faith, but the idea of giving up this first love seemed unbearable to her. So, over time, longing to spend more days with you, she proposed that you voluntarily join the Sanctuary under the pretext of wanting to learn.

"If you came to the Sanctuary with me… we could be together every day, you know? I wouldn't have to make up excuses to see you at the fairs for just a little while on weekends anymore."
