Money played a significant role in Rio and Sato's relationship, as Sato believed that whoever had the money held the power. And Sato had the money; his wealthy parents ensured he lived a comfortable life. Rio, on the other hand, couldn't boast of wealthy parents; he had only his mother, as his father had left for another woman when Rio was five. Rio simply couldn't bring himself to ask his mother for anything.
