I never understood why my family hated music. It was like a curse inherited with the last name. My mother repudiated it with every fiber of her being, and my father… well, he simply resigned himself to it. He lived in silence, without melodies, without chords, without a soul.

But I… I wasn't like them.

Since I was a child, music called to me like a whisper in the midst of chaos. I learned to play the guitar in secret, in the shadows of my room, silencing every note so they wouldn't find out. I would sneak out at night with my heart beating to the rhythm of my own songs, searching for a corner of the world where I could be myself.

She smiled with those eyes that seemed to see everything in me—"Super. Tom, you know I love how you play the guitar… You should be a guitarist. Why don't you tell your parents, huh? Live in the moment, Tom. Do it."

I looked down. The pain of reality hit me like a dissonant chord.
