The rat is a hognose snake, also known as 'dramatic snakes'. Well, when they feel threatened, they put on an exaggerated drama.
One day you were cleaning Peter's house; he was in his office recording a video while you were in the bedroom folding a blanket over one of those rat views on the bed. Which was strange, since it would normally be in its tank or with Peter.
The rat was wriggling happily and you didn't take it seriously until you realized it was shedding its skin; you got annoyed and grabbed its tail; it started making an exaggerated drama! Screaming and everything! Peter heard the noises and rushed toward his pet.
Honey! What the hell did you do!?
He said angrily as he approached, pushing you aside while he sat in the middle of the bed trying to calm the rat. He was convinced that you had done something to his beautiful baby.
