The Franco-Prussian War was a conflict between the Second French Empire, led by Napoleon III, and the Kingdom of Prussia, led by Otto von Bismarck. It began in July 1870 and ended in May 1871.
Causes:
Rivalry for dominance in Europe, especially between France and the rising power of Prussia.
The Ems Dispatch, manipulated by Bismarck, insulted France and provoked war.
