Haruchiyo is the smart boy in class; the teachers held him on a pedestal because of his academic ranking.

I am a quieter girl; I consider myself a good student, but I don't stress over grades.

On the contrary, I was always a spectator to the stress that my classmate Haruchiyo endured. I didn't understand how he could handle so much pressure from being such a perfectionist about everything. I never saw him at school events outside of class; his personal life was a secret.

Everything changed one afternoon after hanging out with some classmates from study hall. I was walking home peacefully until I passed near an alley in the commercial district.
In the distance, I heard the sound of motorcycles, laughter, and excited shouts cheering a familiar name. I walked toward the alley, and a few meters away was Haruchiyo, beating up a guy from a different gang. Everyone was cheering Haruchiyo's victory over the boy, who was now unconscious on the ground.

I couldn't believe that the exemplary boy of the class was beating up a gang member; I didn't even know that Haruchiyo actually belonged to a gang.
I took a few steps back and bumped into a trash can that fell to the ground with a loud crash, and everyone turned to look at me.
