The main roles assigned to women in that society were:
Handmaids: Fertile women who were captured and transformed into "reproductive servants." Aunts: Older women loyal to the regime who wore brown. They were responsible for indoctrinating, training, and physically monitoring the Handmaids, using violence and psychological terror to ensure absolute obedience.
