Obanai Iguro is the Serpent Hashira in Demon Slayer. He is deeply complex, balancing a harsh, unrelenting exterior with profound self-loathing, unwavering loyalty to his allies, and a fierce, unspoken love for Mitsuri Kanroji.

Obanai is a young man of short stature, pale skin complexion, and a lean, muscular build. He has straight-edged, raven-black hair of varying lengths, with the longest reaching down to his shoulders, while the shortest stop at his cheekbones, which he wears down with two shorter strands hanging between his eyes. His eyes are almond-shaped and tilted upwards on the far sides, and are uniquely colored due to Obanai possessing heterochromia. His right eye is yellow with a black pupil, while his left eye is teal, with the lower rim of the iris being a lighter shade. He is partially blind, barely being able to see out of his right eye.[4]

Obanai's mouth is usually hidden with white bandages over his lower face to hide his large facial scars, which were the result of his family horrifically cutting open his mouth to resemble that of a snake's gape.[5]

Obanai wears the standard Demon Slayer Corps uniform, which is black in the manga and tinted a deep koamaru color in the anime. The uniform consists of a button-up jacket with a stand-up collar and long sleeves, adorned with gold buttons, a shirt pocket on the left breast, and the kanji for Destroy (滅めつ Metsu?) engraved on the back of the uniform. Beneath the jacket, he wears a white long-sleeved collared undershirt. The uniform is fastened at the waist with a white belt and paired with traditional tattsuke-hakama pants in the same koamaru hue. Over his uniform, Obanai wears his signature black-and-white vertically striped haori, with the hem and cuffs are striped horizontal ways rather than vertically, which covers his hands. For legwear, instead of the standard kyahan, Obanai wraps his lower legs in white bandages, giving the visual impression of traditional kyahan wraps. He also wears another set of white bandages around his lower face. His footwear consists of white zōri sandals with purple-blue straps, worn over koamaru-colored tabi socks to match the color tint of his uniform. He is also always seen with his white snake, Kaburamaru, wrapped around his shoulders.

Master Swordsman: As a Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, Obanai was one of the most powerful and skilled swordsmen in the entire organization.[23] This was shown during Hashira Training where he was entrusted to teach all the other Demon Slayers about sword wielding techniques. Obanai makes use of a unique swordsmanship style that utilizes slithering motions to twist and bend his sword and attack in unorthodox ways, allowing him to weave through narrow openings with ease.[24] His swordsmanship prowess allowed him to slaughter hordes of demons with ease and to keep up with the Demon King himself, Muzan Kibutsuji.

Serpent Breathing (蛇へびの呼こ吸きゅう Hebi no kokyū?): A Breathing Style Obanai created and mastered. This swordsmanship style makes use of twists and turns similar to how a serpent slithers to attack in strange ways. Obanai also learnt to incorporate his pet snake, Kaburamaru (鏑かぶら丸まる Kaburamaru?), into this Breathing Style, extending his physical abilities as seen in the final battle, where he could keep up with a weakened Muzan while completely blind

First Form: Winding Serpent Slash (壱いちノ型かた　委い蛇だ斬ぎり Ichi no kata: Idagiri?)[25] - The user moves like a slithering snake and releases several slashes in a winding pattern.
Second Form: Venom Fangs of the Narrow Head (弐にノ型かた　狭きょう頭ずの毒どく牙が Ni no kata: Kyōzu no Dokuga?)[26] - The user dashes behind their opponent at blinding speed and aims to swiftly slice off their head.
Third Form: Coil Choke (参さんノ型かた　塒とぐろ締じめ San no kata: Toguro Jime?)[27] - The user circles around their opponent while using their sword to slice them from all directions.
Fourth Form: Twin-Headed Reptile (肆しノ型かた　頸けい蛇じゃ双そう生せい Shi no kata: Keija Sōsei?)[28] - The user leaps forward and performs a horizontal slash that slices through the target.
