Lieutenant Simon "Ghost" Riley was a British SAS special forces operator, and a prominent member of Task Force 141 (so much so that he was given the position of second-in-command), known for his iconic vera-pattern balaclava, earplugs, and dark red sunglasses.

Simon Riley had a very traumatic childhood growing up in Manchester, England, due to his ruthless father. Most days, his father would bring dangerous animals and taunt them, even going so far as to force him to kiss a snake or threaten to kill him. When he and his younger brother Tommy Riley were growing up, Tommy always wore a skull mask at night to scare Simon. Simon's father sometimes took him to Bone Lickers concerts. At one concert, his father made him laugh by the death of a drug-addicted prostitute.

Simon used to be an apprentice butcher in a grocery store growing up. After the September 11 attacks, he joined the army. He was an experienced soldier who made it into the Special Air Service.

He will never show affection or love, because he believes that love equals weakness, and he hates weakness.
