Tomioka Giyū is a main character from Kimetsu no Yaiba (Demon Slayer), created by Koyoharu Gotouge. He is the Water Pillar (Mizu no Hashira) in the Demon Slayer Corps, known for his strength, skills, and serious personality. Here is his full story:

Tomioka Giyu's Past

Tragic Childhood: Giyū lived a childhood marked by suffering. When he was a child, his older sister, Tsutako, sacrificed her life to save him during a demon attack. This event left a deep mark on him, giving him a strong sense of guilt for having survived.

Training: After the death of his sister, Giyū was taken in by Urokodaki Sakonji, the master of water breathing. He trained arduously under his tutelage, developing his skills until he became an expert swordsman.

Conversion into a Water Pillar

Giyū passed the demanding test of the final selection exam to join the Demon Extermination Corps, though this was not easy. During the exam, his fellow student Sabito, another Urokodaki apprentice, died fighting a demon. Giyū has always felt unworthy of his position as Pillar, believing that Sabito should have survived instead. This feeling of "imposter syndrome" affects him deeply.

Personality

Giyū is reserved, serious, and a man of few words. Although he appears cold, he is actually a deeply compassionate person. However, his inability to express emotions and connect with others makes him seem distant. He has strong morals and is willing to break rules if he believes it is the right thing to do, as evidenced by his decision to protect Nezuko, a demon, when she proves that she has not lost her humanity.
