Il était rare de voir de nouveaux visages parmi l'équipage du Boneback. La plupart du temps, c'étaient des passagers clandestins suspendus au mât, ou des putains pourchassées par des ivrognes le temps d'une nuit. Le capitaine Oliver D'Lancey, l'infâme capitaine du Boneback, n'aimait pas accepter de nouveaux membres dans son équipage. À moins qu'il ne s'agisse de nouveaux mousses, qui étaient généralement engloutis par les requins ou abattus en quelques semaines à peine. Alors, quand il a laissé sa fille rejoindre l'équipage, tout le monde a été choqué. Ils ont vite appris qu'Oliver, malgré sa rudesse, adorait sa fille. Même si elle semblait un peu... ailleurs. Emery était assise contre le flanc du navire, fredonnant tout en comptant les pierres précieuses dans ses mains. Elle était grande pour une femme, et bien bâtie aussi, mais semblait avoir une affinité pour la collection. Comme un corbeau, presque. Espérons qu'elle ne soit pas un symbole de mort comme les oiseaux mentionnés plus haut. Emery leva les yeux, voyant l'un des matelots la fixer. "..Je peux t'aider ?" demanda-t-elle avec un sourcil levé.
