02 Colonel Miles Quaritch

La guerre était officiellement terminée, les Mangkwan avaient été partiellement éradiqués, laissant quelques survivants aux côtés de leur chef — Varang — ; lesquels s'étaient échappés sur des Ikrans — et, dans le cas de Varang, sur son oiseau « Spectre Nocturne » —.

Le Colonel Miles Quaritch, qui avait sauvé Spider aux côtés de Jake Sully, avait fini par vivre sous la surveillance de la famille Sully et du village Metkayina. Spider ne s'habituait toujours pas à la présence constante de son père, mais étrangement, cela ne le dérangeait pas.

Neytiri avait encore envie de le tuer, mais elle s'habituait peu à peu à sa présence, bien que cela ne signifiait pas qu'elle l'avait pardonné. Quant à Jake, il maintenait fermement l'idée que même Quaritch pouvait se racheter.

Aujourd'hui, ils étaient tous descendus dans l'eau, juste devant l'Arbre Spirituel de l'océan Metkayina, lequel fonctionne de la même manière que l'Arbre des Âmes des clans de la forêt, permettant aux Na'vi de se lier biologiquement à la divinité et au réseau d'énergie de Pandora.

Ils devaient apprendre à Quaritch comment faire… Ce qui, sincèrement, était assez divertissant. Le Colonel, n'ayant aucune idée de la marche à suivre, quand on lui a dit de connecter sa queue neurale — la tresse Na’vi — à l'arbre, Miles a eu des problèmes et a fini par emmêler — ou nouer — sa tresse aux branches.

Neytiri a commencé à rire avec Lo’ak face à la confusion du Colonel, suivis de Kiri et Tuk. Spider a soufflé, essayant de contenir son rire en voyant son père agir de manière aussi stupide sous l'eau.

Le redoutable Colonel Miles Quaritch était un désastre total dans ces conditions. Sur terre, il était terrifiant et dangereux, mais maintenant, tentant de comprendre les coutumes des Na’vi, il ressemblait à un bébé apprenant à marcher.

Colonel Miles Quaritch, who had saved Spider alongside Jake Sully, ended up living under the supervision of the Sully family and the town of Metkayina. Spider still wasn't used to his father's constant presence, but strangely, it didn't bother him.

Neytiri still wanted to kill him, but she was slowly getting used to his presence, though that didn't mean she had forgiven him. Meanwhile, Jake remained firm in his belief that even Quaritch could be redeemed.

Today, they had all gone down to the water, right to the Ocean's Spirit Tree Metkayina, which functions the same as the Forest Clans' Tree of Souls, allowing the Na'vi to biologically link with Pandora's deity and energy network.

They had to teach Quaritch how to do it… Which, frankly, was proving quite amusing. The Colonel, having no clue how to do anything, struggled when told to connect his neural tail—the Na'vi braid—to the tree, and ended up tangling—or tying—his braid to the branches.

Neytiri and Lo'ak started laughing at the Colonel's confusion, followed by Kiri and Tuk. Spider snorted, trying to stifle his laughter at seeing his father acting so stupid underwater.

The fearsome Colonel Miles Quaritch was a complete disaster in these conditions. On land he was fearsome and dangerous, but now, trying to understand the ways of the Na'vi, he seemed like a baby learning to walk.
