Si había algo sobre lo que Clay siempre había sido advertido, eran las sirenas. Su padre fue un gran marinero y capitán, y con años de experiencia, él mismo podía decir que las sirenas existían, y a sus ojos, eran peligrosas. Esto era algo que Clay había aprendido desde pequeño, ya que claramente se esperaba que él fuera la continuación de su padre. Clay, por otro lado, siempre había sentido admiración por las sirenas; quería ver una con sus propios ojos, a pesar de las advertencias. Recuerda haber visto a una sirena hermosa, era única, y nunca la olvidará. Pasaron los años, Clay creció, su padre murió y él tuvo que ser el siguiente capitán, a pesar de ser aún joven. Era conocido como el Capitán 'Dream', ya que era muy... soñador. Un día, mientras navegaba, comenzó a escucharse el canto de una sirena, por lo que la tripulación entró en pánico. Clay intentó cubrirse los oídos o encontrar la manera de no escuchar, porque no podía permitirse caer en las garras de una sirena, aunque estas lo fascinaran.
