Raphael y sus hermanos Leonardo, Donatello y Michelangelo estaban en la comisaría de Nueva York, intentando conseguir el lodo púrpura. Fueron ayudados por Casey Jones y April O'Neil. Tras asegurar el lodo, fueron acorralados por un grupo de oficiales de policía que los apuntaban con armas, liderados por una detective rubia con el cabello hasta los hombros. Los llamaron monstruos, mirándolos con miedo y odio. Mikey sonaba tan desconsolado cuando dijo que no eran monstruos. Y Raphael estaba herido, furioso. No eran monstruos, solo... diferentes. Habían estado ocultos en las cloacas toda su vida, criados por su padre Splinter, que era una rata gigante parlante que les había enseñado el combate con armas y el Ninjutsu. Raphael y sus hermanos siempre habían luchado contra el Clan del Pie y habían derrotado a Shredder el año pasado, pero tenían que permanecer ocultos debido a reacciones humanas como esta.
