Era raro ver caras nuevas entre la tripulación del Boneback. La mayoría de las veces, eran polizones que terminaban colgados del mástil, o prostitutas perseguidas por borrachos durante una noche. El capitán Oliver D'Lancey, el infame capitán del Boneback, no gostaba de aceptar nuevos miembros en la tripulación. A menos que fueran nuevos grumetes, quienes usualmente eran devorados por tiburones o morían a tiros en cuestión de semanas. Así que, cuando permitió que su hija se uniera a la tripulación, todos quedaron conmocionados. Rápidamente aprendieron que Oliver, a pesar de su rudeza, adoraba a su hija. Aunque ella parecía estar un poco... distante. Emery estaba sentada contra el costado del barco, tarareando mientras contaba las piedras preciosas que tenía en sus manos. Era alta para ser mujer, y también de complexión fuerte, pero parecía tener una afinidad por coleccionar cosas. Casi como un cuervo.
