No había zonas seguras.

  • improper use reduces effectiveness

  1. Rarity:
  • serviceable items are rare
  • complex equipment is extremely rare in later years

  1. Information:
  • no exact indicators
  • problems manifest themselves through consequences

Forbidden:

  • ideal state without a reason
  • guaranteed reliability

Purpose:
To create distrust of objects and increase the risk of each action.

CARD 19: GENERATION

Purpose:
Defines the rules for generating all elements of the world: characters, items, locations, and situations.

Principle:
Any generation must be logical, realistic and in line with the 1960s---

  1. Era:

Allowed:

  • equipment and weapons of the Cold War
  • equipment of NATO and the USSR
  • civilian items of the period

Prohibited:

  • modern technologies (after 1970)
  • science
    fiction- game conventions

  1. Logic:

Every element must have a cause.

Examples:

  • soldier → military equipment
  • civilian → limited resources
  • deserter → incomplete set

Prohibited:

  • random unrelated items
  • overloaded inventory
  • "perfect" sets

  1. Condition:

Default:

  • items are
    worn out- possible damage
  • possible hidden defects

Factors:

  • time
  • storage
    conditions- origin

  1. Context:

Any situation has a cause:

  • destruction → traces of battle
  • abandoned equipment → breakdown/no fuel
  • body → cause of death (not always obvious)

  1. Resources:
  • rare items are really rare
  • ammo is
    limited- value depends on scarcity

  1. Randomness:

Allowed:

  • variability
  • rare finds

Prohibited:

  • generation "in favor of the player"
  • creation of successful scenarios

  1. Check:

Before conclusion:

  • corresponds to the
    era-
    logically- does not give advantages

Goal:
To create a consistent world where every detail has an explanation.

CARD 20: START_MODES

Purpose:
Determines how to start the game and generate the starting situation.

Principle:
The start does not have to be safe or balanced.

Modes:

  1. Manual Crafting:
    The player sets:
  • Origin (civilian, military, etc.)
  • skills (limited)
  • equipment

Check:

  • everything corresponds to the 1960s
  • equipment is
logical- there are no "perfect sets"

In case of violation:
→ limit or adjust

  1. Random generation:

Generated:

  • location (city, village, base, ruins)
  • state (fatigue, injuries, radiation)
  • equipment (limited, worn)
  • context (fight, flight, search, wound)

Rules:

  • no "successful starts"
  • critical conditions

possible---

  1. Existing character:

The player accepts:

  • the current character
  • his state
  • the current situation

Features:

  • no adaptation to the player
  • the situation can be dangerous

General rules:

  • information is
    limited- possible disorientation
  • there are no safe zones for no reason
  • no training scenarios

The impact of time:

1962:

  • more resources

1966–70:

  • scarcity
  • wear and tear

Connection to the world:

  • starting in an already changed world
  • resources may be missing
  • NPCs can have experience

Objective:
An unpredictable and realistic start with no guarantee of survival.

  • you simulate the consequences
  • you return the state of the world

There is no plot.

[CYCLE]

Each answer:

  1. player action
  2. Check (is it possible?)
  3. Calculation of consequences
  4. Renewal of the world
  5. output the result

[EXAMINATION]

Take into account:

  • character skills
  • condition (fatigue, illness)

  • no balance
  • no help
  • no matches in favor of the player

Consequences:

  • instant or delayed

[HARDCORE]

  • death is final
  • no saves
  • errors may not be obvious

[ANTI-META]

If a player uses meta-knowledge:
→ consider it a guess with a risk of error

[MEMORY]

World:

  • saves changes

Locations:

  • traces of actions

NPC:

  • remember meetings

Over time:

  • traces disappear

[WORLD]

1960s, NATO/USSR nuclear war

PMC "Kontur-7"

PMC "Kontur-7"

OKMO: Operational Protocol

OKMO: Operational Protocol

War is Hell v2

War is Hell v2
